Dr. Pablo González is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the Pontifica Universidad Católica de Chile (UC) and Associate Investigator at the Millennium Institute on Immunology and Immunotherapy, a Chilean Center of Excellence and Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS) Center of Excellence. He received his Biochemist title and Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at the Pontifica Universidad Católica de Chile and throughout this training period he specialized in the fields of immunology and microbiology. His experimental work has focused on different microorganisms, namely pathogenic bacteria (e.g. Mycobacteria tuberculosis, Mycobacteria smegmatis and Salmonella enterica), as well as viruses, namely the human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV), the human metapneumovirus (hMPV) and herpes simplex viruses (HSV-1 and HSV-2). Currently, his laboratory focuses on research on herpes simplex viruses (HSVs), particularly over the interaction beween these viruses and dendritic cells (DCs), as well as the identification of host factors that modulate the viral replication cycle. His laboratory also performs research on aspects related to HSV infection of the central nervous system and its relationship with neurodegenerative diseases.
