Andrea Cossarizza took the degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Padova (Italy), then he did his PhD in Oncology at the University of Bologna and University of Modena, and the Specialization in Clinical Pathology and Immunohematology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. As medical student, he visited the Basel Institute of Immunology and NYU Medical Center. After some periods in different Institutes (London, Paris, Los Angeles), in 1998 he became Associate Professor of General Pathology and Immunology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, and in 2010 was appointed Full Professor.
As of March 2023, Dr. Cossarizza has published 472 papers on peer-reviewed international journals with a total impact factor: 2,740 and H-index: 92, among which Science, Nature, The Lancet, Nature Protocols, Nature Communications, Lancet Respiratory Medicine, Lancet Infectious Diseases, Lancet HIV, Lancet Rheumatology, PNAS USA. His papers received >45.500 citations.
He gave >300 lectures in international and national institutions and >500 oral or communications to national or international conferences, he edited 4 books. Dr. Cossarizza gave three webinars for "Science" (in 2015, 2017 and one on COVID-19 on April 30th, 2020, that was attended by >8,000 scientists), and one for “Nature” on May 20th, 2021. He gave a webinar on COVID-19 immunopathogenesis during the world conference of FOCIS on June 5th, 2021, and a webinar for the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS) on July 5th, 2021. In 2018-2020 he was President of the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC).
