Supinda Bunyavanich, MD, MPH, MPhil is the Mount Sinai Endowed Professor in Allergy and Systems Biology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. As a physician scientist, she leads a research group in addition to teaching students and seeing patients at the Jaffe Food Allergy Institute at Mount Sinai, where she is Deputy Director.
Dr. Bunyavanich’s research, funded by the National Institutes of Health, combines tools in epidemiology, multi-omics, and systems biology to elucidate and understand the pathobiology of asthma and allergic diseases. Her research group works with human cohorts to identify risk factors, mechanisms, and potential therapies for these common conditions using data science and integrative approaches. Dr. Bunyavanich also serves in leading roles for NIH-sponsored research networks. She chairs an NIH study section and serves on advisory groups for the NIH. She received the Harvard Medical School Shore Award for Scholars in Medicine and is an elected member of the American Society of Clinical Investigators.
Dr. Bunyavanich earned her BA summa cum laude from Harvard University, MPhil in Architecture from the University of Cambridge, MD from Harvard Medical School, and MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed her internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital-Harvard Medical School, her allergy and immunology fellowship at Brigham & Women’s Hospital-Harvard Medical School, and her postdoctoral research fellowship at the Channing Division of Network Medicine, Brigham & Women’s Hospital-Harvard Medical School. Dr. Bunyavanich served on the faculty at Harvard Medical School before being recruited to Mount Sinai.
