Yiran (Caterina) Cheng, MSc, is a graduate student at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
After earning her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Nankai University, she developed a passion for biomedical research. She joined Dr. Rudolf Jaenisch's lab at the Whitehead Institute (MIT) to optimize an in vitro Alzheimer's disease model using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). She then moved on to join Dr. Oleg Butovsky's lab at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where she studied microglial activation in Alzheimer's disease mouse models and obtained her Master's degree in immunology from Harvard Medical School. To further her studies in clinical neuroimmunology and neurodegenerative disease, she has now joined the doctoral program in Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Under the guidance of Dr. Philip De Jager, she is investigating the roles of T cells in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease.
